The Penn Yan Public Library will be the site of the Tobacco Action Coalition of the Finger Lakes tie-dye event to raise awareness about tobacco waste’s impact on the environment.
Saturday’s event is hosted by Reality Check Youth groups from Yates, Ontario, Seneca, and Wayne counties. The Tobacco Action Coalition says it is organizing this event to raise awareness about the environmental impact of tobacco and vape waste, particularly cigarette butts with non-biodegradable filters. The coalition states these waste products release harmful chemicals such as nicotine and heavy metals into soil and water, posing threats to wildlife and human health.
The event at the Penn Yan Library on Saturday runs from 1 until 3 p.m.
