Penn Yan’s Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital is marking 100 years of serving the community on Wednesday with a special salute to the community, staff, and local military. The Hospital’s CEO Jose Acevedo released this video previewing Wednesday’s event.
With funding provided primarily by the community, construction began for Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in August 1920. Four years later, in 1924, Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital opened its doors, named to honor and memorialize residents who served in World War I.
The special salute will recognize Homestead and Penn Yan Manor residents as well as UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health employees who served in the Armed Forces. The program will include a presentation by the Penn Yan American Legion Honor Guard, the singing of the National Anthem by Homestead resident, Gareth Fishbaugh, and remarks by hospital leadership and Senator Tom O’Mara, 58th NYS Senate District.
The public is invited to attend the Salute to Soldiers and Sailors event on Wednesday at 2 pm under the white tent in the hospital’s front parking lot.
