Over the weekend, Ryan Creary, an 8th grader representing the Penn Yan Central School District, won the 2024 Wayne-Finger Lakes regional spelling bee. He earned the title of 2024 Wayne-Finger Lakes regional champion in round 8 when he correctly spelled the word “facile”.
Ryan will be advancing to the national competition in Maryland next month, where he and more than 200 other spellers from across the country and world will have the opportunity to compete for the Scripps Cup and a $50,000 cash prize.
As part of its commitment to promote youth education in the Wayne-Finger Lakes region, Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES is proud to be an official 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee regional partner, giving local students and schools the opportunity to participate in America’s longest-running educational competition.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation’s largest and longest-running educational program, having launched in 1925. Visit spellingbee.com for more information about the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which is administered on a not-for-profit basis by The E.W. Scripps Company.
