8:00p Update:
A woman has been arrested in connection with Thursday’s accident that claimed the life of a one-year-old boy in Yates County.
The Yates County Sheriff’s Office reports they were able to use evidence collected at the scene and interviews to locate the car and driver allegedly involved in the crash.
26-year-old Sarah Olsen of Penn Yan was arrested on felony charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident without Reporting and Criminally Negligent Homicide.
Olsen was arraigned in Yates County CAP Court and released on appearance tickets.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
Noon Update:
Yates County Undersheriff Brandon Jensen tells Finger Lakes Daily News that the vehicle they are looking for is a dark-colored, possibly black GMC SUV, possibly an Acadia, with front-end and passenger-side damage.
We have also learned the victim is a one-year-old Mennonite boy. The identity of the victim will not be released at this time. The initial investigation appears to show that the child walked away from responsible family members and made it to the road unattended and unaccompanied.
Residents in the area are asked to check their outdoor security cameras from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday for help in identifying the vehicle and its driver.

Your help is needed in trying to identify the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a one-year-old boy Thursday afternoon in Yates County.
It happened at around 4:30 at 3094 State Route 364 in Benton. The sheriff’s office says the child was struck by a westbound black SUV with one occupant that continued on.

All information will remain confidential. Route 364 was shut down between Briggs and Carroll roads for more than three hours while police conducted their investigation.
