Assemblyman Phil Palmesano recently welcomed officials from NASCAR and Watkins Glen International to Albany to promote a new bipartisan effort supporting motorsports across New York.
Representing Watkins Glen International were President Dawn Burlew, along with Fiona Krenzer and Michelle Benjamin. Dan Klenetsky attended on behalf of NASCAR. The group visited the state Capitol to highlight the creation of a bipartisan Motorsports Legislative Working Group.
According to Palmesano, the working group is designed to recognize the role motorsports play in the state’s culture and economy, while celebrating and advocating for racetracks and racing communities throughout New York.
“It was my honor to welcome Dawn, Dan, Fiona and Michelle to the state Capitol,” Palmesano said. “WGI is a gem, and having it in my district, I see firsthand what it contributes not only to our local and regional economy, but to the entire state as well.”
Palmesano noted there are more than 20 motorsports venues statewide and said the new working group will push for a stronger partnership between the state and the motorsports industry to help preserve tracks and ensure their continued success.
