A Schuyler County school district has selected its next Superintendent. Current B.C. Cate Elementary School Building Principal James Nolan will take over as Deputy Superintendent at Odessa-Montour on July 1st. After a six-month transition period, Nolan will officially take over as Superintendent on January 1st. Nolan will succeed interim superintendent Tracy Marchionda, the Penn Yan resident who came to the district in December of 2022.
According to his bio on the school district’s website, Nolan grew up in the Adirondacks and attended Corning Community College and went on to pursue a career in law enforcement as a state trooper for several years. He then attended Elmira College, as well as SUNY Cortland and Brockport for his education and administration degrees. Prior to his tenure at O-M as a building administrator, Nolan was an elementary teacher in Odessa-Montour and Elmira Heights.
Outside of school, Nolan enjoys spending time with his family and they participate in numerous outdoor activities together. His children keep him very busy with their involvement in several school and travel sports teams. He also devotes a lot of his time to coaching youth sports, with a focus on hockey.
