Odessa Man Accused of Having Sex With Kids Caught in NC

An Odessa man is back in local police custody after being arrested in Washington County, North Carolina on a felony warrant charging him with sexual assault against a child and criminal sexual act.

67-year-old Marcel Veilleux is alleged to have had sex on multiple occasions with two children under the age of 13 in Schuyler County.  He was detained by North Carolina police officials until he waived extradition and was transported back to New York State by members of the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department.

Veilleux was arraigned on Wednesday and was initially sent to Schuyler County Jail.  On Thursday, his attorney made a bail application to the Schuyler County Court for either release on his own recognizance, or for monetary bail to be set.

According to the Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office, Chief Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Hourihan argued at the bail hearing that the severity of the crime, the potential lengthy prison sentence if convicted, Veilleux’s ties outside of New York State, and the alleged serious harm to the children warranted significant bail to be set in this case. As a result, the Hon. Matthew C. Hayden set bail for $1,000,000 cash, $2,000,000 insurance bond, and $4,000,000 partially secured surety bond.

Veilleux faces up to 25 years to life in prison on the Predatory Sexual Assault charge, and up to 25 years on the Criminal Sexual Act charge.
