Authorities say no charges will be filed following a more than six-hour search for two kayakers on Seneca Lake Saturday.
The Yates County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man and woman, both in their early 30s, were first seen at the Salvation Army Camp on Long Point Road near the Dining Hall just before 8 a.m. A short time later, the pair was spotted in the water on two blue-and-white kayaks near neighboring properties. Camp staff reported that both appeared intoxicated before leaving the grounds. Law enforcement lost sight of the kayaks in the middle of the lake, prompting a search involving crews from the Yates and Schuyler Sheriff’s Offices, Branchport-Keuka Park and Himrod Fire Departments, Penn Yan Ambulance, and assistance from Onondaga County’s Air One helicopter and LifeNet. The kayakers were located safely on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake just after 2 p.m.
Officials on Sunday confirmed with WFLR News that no charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
