SHARE NOW

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office has added a new K9 officer to its fleet of officers.

Rocco is a purebred black lab assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Correction Division. Rocco and his handler, Correction Officer James Palmer, have begun their training in the detection of jail contraband.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office has utilized K9 officers for almost five decades. At a ceremony for a memorial dedicated in tribute to Yates County K-9 members in October of 2023, former Sheriff Jan Scofield spoke about starting the canine unit in the county in the early 80s. Scofield said there was a lot of “trial and error” with training early on but added he is very proud the sheriff’s department still utilizes the specialty service they provide to law enforcement.
