Murder Conviction in Case of Kidnapped Ithaca Man

SHARE NOW

A Tioga County jury has convicted a second person in the kidnapping and murder case of an Ithaca man.

49-year-old Angelo Baez, of Ithaca, will be sentenced at the end of February after being convicted of first and second-degree murder and kidnapping charges in connection with the death of Thomas Rath.

Rath was last seen in the homeless encampment known as “The Jungle” on May 20th, 2023. He was initially reported missing but police say their investigation led them to believe Rath was kidnapped. Rath’s body was located in a shallow grave in Tioga County three months later.

13 people have been arrested in connection to this case. In October, a jury convicted Joseph Howell, of Newfield, of kidnapping and intimidating a witness.
