A three-year-old boy who was reported missing from his Urbana home Tuesday morning was found safe after an extensive search involving multiple agencies.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says the child was last seen around 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, after possibly leaving the home to follow a puppy. Deputies and New York State Police immediately began searching, with K9 Tripp initiating a track.

The effort quickly expanded, with State Forest Rangers organizing and directing a coordinated search. Agencies involved included deputies, troopers, officers from Bath, Hammondsport, and Corning Police, the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, NYS Parole, Environmental Conservation Officers, Hammondsport and Savona Fire Departments, Steuben County SWAT and Jail Emergency Response Teams, the State Police Aviation Unit, Steuben County Emergency Management, and Steuben County EMS.

At about 3:30 p.m., the boy and his puppy, Archie, were located near Sonora Road in the Town of Bath by former Savona Mayor Tom Drake. The child was evaluated by EMS and released to his parents.

Sheriff Jim Allard thanked all the agencies and community members who assisted in the search.
