A number of events are planned on Memorial Day to honor those Americans who have served our country and have passed away.

Following a 10 a.m. parade in the village of Penn Yan on Monday, residents are invited to hear Congresswoman Claudia Tenney speak at the Old County Courthouse. The Grand Marshall of this year’s Penn Yan Parade is Vietnam War veteran Andy Swarthout. There will also be a parade at 10 o’clock in Dundee that will step off at the high school. In addition to the DCS band, the Dundee VFW and American Legion Color Guards will take part as will a group of Civil War reenactors. Sheriff Ron Spike will be the guest speaker at the town of Torrey’s service at 10:30 Monday morning at the gazebo in Dresden. The Penn Yan Middle School Band will take part and Judge Jason Cook will read the Roll of Honor. Following the ceremony, a parade to the cemetery will take place and a service and gun salute will take place, along with the playing of Taps.

Village of Odessa Mayor Gerry Messmer, who is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Army, will be the guest speaker at Monday’s Memorial Day service at Shequaga Falls in Montour Falls at 9:30. At 11 o’clock, he will be the guest speaker for the service at the Schuyler County Veterans Memorial Park in Catharine.
