Maguire Subaru of Ithaca recently donated blankets to the Cayuga Medical Center Foundation for patients undergoing cancer treatments. The donation is part of a partnership between Subaru and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as part of the Subaru Loves to Care Event. Since 2016, LLS and Subaru have supported cancer patients and their families with free resources such as blankets.

“Maguire Subaru is proud to have partnered with Cayuga Health for this year’s Subaru Loves to Care event. Each year, Subaru dealers are invited to partner with a local cancer treatment facility, and Cayuga Health was a clear choice,” said Ed Prue, Director of Marketing for Maguire Family of Dealerships. “Their tireless dedication to take care of our community is a golden beacon of hope in a time where hope can be hard to find. Maguire Subaru donated hundreds of blankets to Cayuga Health with hopes that their patients find comfort and warmth in them.”

Blankets not only provide emotional comfort for patients undergoing treatment, but also can manage physical effects as well. Often, chemotherapy can cause side effects that make patients feel cold. The cancer care kits, provided by the CMC Foundation, will also include self-care items not covered by insurance, such as soap, moisturizer, lip balm, and lotion.

“These blankets will be a significant addition to our Cancer Care Kits, providing much-needed comfort to our patients during their treatment journey,” said Hicham Kortito, System Director of Oncology and Hematology for Cayuga Health. “They are more than just for warmth; they are a symbol of the community’s support for our patients. It’s heartening to see local businesses like Maguire stepping up in such meaningful ways.”
