The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Schuyler County Probation, SCUDD, and Watkins Glen Police Department partnered up on Thursday to bring an educational and awareness event to Watkins, Odessa, and Bradford Juniors and Seniors ahead of prom and graduation season. This event featured the “Emilee’s Challenge” Educational Trailer.
The trailer is part of Emilee’s Challenge, a program founded in memory of Emilee Rawleigh, a 21-year-old woman who passed away after being involved in a crash in 2019. Emilee was not wearing a seatbelt and distracted her driver in the final moments before the fatal collision in Cohocton. Her mother, Kim Rawleigh-Clark, now travels to schools and communities to tell Emilee’s story.

Inside the trailer, visitors are immersed in real crash scene stimuli and powerful visuals that bring the harsh reality of fatal crashes to life. One side of the trailer tells Emilee’s story; the other side honors the four victims of a crash that happened in Steuben County in 2019 that killed four people: 25-year-old Nicole Wise, 26-year-old Coy Miner, 29-year-old Adam Bellamy, and 28-year-old Korbie Higgins. Together, they create a visceral, emotional experience that pushes far beyond statistics, headlines, or lectures.

Clute Park in Watkins Glen hosted Thursday’s event.
