A Lansing man is going to prison for embezzling nearly $300,000 from a Cayuga County business.
According to District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci, Scott Brenchley was sentenced to 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 years in state prison on Tuesday by Justice Jon Budelmann for Grand Larceny. Brenchley had pled guilty to the charge on January 9.
Between July 2022 and May 2023, while employed as a controller at the agricultural business, Brenchley used forged checks from the business’s account to obtain cash. He also used the company’s credit card to purchase personal items, including sports memorabilia he bought online.
Brenchley was also ordered by the court to pay full restitution to the business.
Chief Assistant DA Chris Valdina handled the case. The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office investigated the matter.
