Ithaca Seeking City Historian

SHARE NOW

The City of Ithaca is searching for a City Historian.

Ithaca is seeking a community volunteer to serve in the role and honor the city’s past while preserving historical moments for the future.

According to the city, the historian will be responsible for:

  • Protecting historical city documents
  • Researching and answering questions from city officials
  • Commemorating city history, spaces, and people
  • Submitting an annual report to Common Council and Mayor
  • Participating in the meetings and activities of the Municipal Historians of Tompkins County

The right candidate for the role should have an interest in maintaining public history, the ability to promote historical understanding through print and social media, and be able to set goals, projects, and topics with a means to accomplish them.

For their work, the city historian will receive a $3,000 stipend.

Applications are due by December 15. Applications can be made here.

For more information, contact City Manager Deborah Mohlenhoff at [email protected] or 607-274-6502.
