Ithaca Police are investigating an alleged assault that occurred last weekend as a hate crime.
The suspect is alleged to have dismounted a bicycle with wide tires in the 100 block of Cascadilla Street and physically assaulted his victim, whom he did not know. It is also alleged that during the Saturday afternoon assault, the suspect made derogatory comments about the victim’s gender identity, which has resulted in authorities investigating this incident as a hate crime.
The suspect is described as a white male, in his mid-20s to early 30s with black curly hair. He was last seen wearing black sweatpants and a light-colored t-shirt. The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Ithaca Police Department. Anonymous tips are welcome.
