The Ithaca man arrested in connection with last March’s shoplifting incident at the Target store in Big Flats that led to a Chemung County Sheriff’s Investigator being critically injured has pleaded guilty in Chemung County Court.
25-year-old Dominick Haley pleaded guilty plea to charges of felony assault and felony assault on a police officer, along with misdemeanor petit larceny. Last March 29th, while pursuing Haley, who attempted to steal $300 in merchandise from Target, the subject ran towards a getaway vehicle and jumped on the hood with Inv. Mike Theetge in close pursuit tackles him on top of the hood. The driver of the getaway car, Fatiuna Massaline, also of Ithaca, accelerated the vehicle and then jerked the wheel, causing Inv. Theetge to be thrown from the vehicle hood, falling onto his back while holding Haley, who landed on top of him, rendering the officer unresponsive. As a result of the driver’s actions, Inv. Theetge sustained a skull fracture and brain bleed.

Massaline has pleaded not guilty to the same charges, along with a felony charge of recklessly causing serious injury with a weapon. She is scheduled to go on trial next week.
WENY television reports Haley will be sentenced on April 14th.
