Students enrolled at Ithaca College during the spring 2020 semester may be eligible for payments under a $1.5 million class action settlement.
The lawsuit, filed by a student, claimed the college breached its contract with students when it shifted to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ithaca College denies any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement, which still requires court approval. A hearing is scheduled for October 28 in Syracuse.
Eligible students will automatically receive a financial payment, along with an $800 tuition credit if they pursue graduate studies at Ithaca College, and a complimentary ticket to Alumni Weekend. Students do not need to take action to receive a payment, though those who prefer electronic payment or need to update their address must submit a consent form at ithacarefundlawsuit.com.
More than 70 colleges and universities nationwide have faced similar lawsuits over the 2020 shift to remote learning. In 2023, Cornell University reached a $3 million settlement in a comparable case.
