Another Corrections Officer at the Elmira Correctional Facility was injured after being attacked by an inmate.
According to the New York State Corrections Officer Police Benevolent Association, the December 29th incident began after the officer was spit on by the inmate from his cell. The officer was then punched multiple times in the face after they entered the cell to bring the inmate to a special housing unit. They were able to grab the inmate and force him to the ground before placing handcuffs on him.
The unidentified officer was treated for injuries and blood exposure at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
NYSCOPBA said the inmate is serving time at Elmira after being convicted last year of criminal possession of a weapon in Richmond County on Staten Island.
Ten officers at Elmira were injured as a result of a number of inmate attacks during the month of December.
