UPDATE:
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a house and an attached garage in the village of Penn Yan.
The fire broke out at 109 Youngs Street at around 9:15 Friday night. Firefighters from Penn Yan, Branchport-Keuka Park and Benton were joined by the Himrod Fast Team and the first members to arrive on scene reported heavy smoke coming from the back of the residence. The homeowner had already evacuated the home when firefighters arrived and was checked over by Penn Yan ambulance personnel on scene. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control limiting damage, however, there was extensive smoke and heat damage to the rest of the residence.
The Hammondsport Fire Department brought its ladder truck to Penn Yan for standby at the fire station.

(Gallery from the scene below)The initial call for the fire at 109 Youngs Street came in at around 9:20 p.m. with Penn Yan, Himrod, with its FAST Team, and Benton Departments responding to the scene. The first Penn Yan firefighter who arrived on the scene told us there was heavy smoke coming from the rear corner of the home near the garage.
No injuries were reported and we are still awaiting confirmation on if anyone was home when the fire broke out. All Penn Yan units were back in service at 11 p.m.
Branchport-Keuka Park Fire Department assisted with an engine and Hammondsport Fire Department responded with their ladder to the Penn Yan fire station for standby. Penn Yan Police Department, Yates County Sheriff’s Office, and Penn Yan Ambulance all responded to the scene as well.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and we will update this story when more information is available.
