A Hammondsport man has been sentenced to prison on multiple child sex abuse material charges, according to the Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office.
45-year-old James Hopkins was sentenced to 2⅓ to 7 years in state prison for promoting a sexual performance by a child under 17 (a Class D felony) and possessing a sexual performance by a child (a Class E felony).
Hopkins was arrested in September 2024 after a New York State Police investigation into a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tip alleged that he uploaded child sexual abuse material through a mobile messaging app.
Investigators later determined that Hopkins used the app to view and share explicit images involving minors. He remains held at the Steuben County Jail without bail.
