Greenidge Temporarily Shutdown After Late-Night Fire

A late-night fire at the Greenidge Station in Dresden drew a large emergency response Sunday, but officials say the damage was limited thanks to quick action by firefighters.

The Yates County 911 Center received a call around 11:15 p.m. reporting a structure fire at 590 Plant Road. Sheriff’s deputies and the Dresden Fire Department arrived to find a fire inside the facility. Crews from Penn Yan, Himrod, and West Lake Road fire departments responded under mutual aid, along with the Yates County Office of Emergency Services.

Firefighters contained the flames to a small area of the building and extinguished the fire shortly after arrival, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Yates County Fire Investigation Team was called in to determine what sparked the blaze. Investigators say the cause remains under investigation, but there is currently no indication of foul play. Greenidge staff are cooperating with the inquiry.

The facility will remain shut down until necessary repairs are completed.

Greenidge released this statement to Finger Lakes Daily News:

“Last night, there was a small fire at our facility that was quickly contained with minimal damage, no injuries, and no environmental impact due to our team immediately enacting proper safety procedures and the excellent work of our local first responders. Our operations are temporarily suspended while we assess the cause of the incident, but we anticipate being back to running normal operations soon.”
