Day two of the 32 annual Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance in Trumansburg featured a Friday night performance from Mavis Staples. The American rhythm and blues and gospel singer and civil rights activist, Staples this month turned 85-years old. She is the last surviving member of her family’s band, The Staple Singers. She recorded the hit singles “I’ll Take You There” and “Let’s Do It Again”.
Other great music came from Sihasin, Maddy Walsh & the Blind Spots, Preston Frank and his Zydeco Family Band, and Jim Lauderdale.
The festival continues Saturday and Sunday at the Trumansburg Fairgounds.
