Funeral Services Set for 12-Year-Old Penn Yan Boy Who Died After House Fire

SHARE NOW

Funeral services have been scheduled for 12-year-old Ethan Parker of Penn Yan, who tragically lost his life following a house fire on Friday morning, September 19. Ethan bravely tried to save his grandmother, Patricia Stenz, during the blaze; she passed away a day after Ethan, on September 21.

Ethan, a 6th-grade student at Penn Yan Middle School, was remembered by family as a quiet, loving boy with a smile that could light up a room. He cherished his dog, Bea, and had a distinctive giggle that those who knew him will never forget.

The family will receive friends at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 East Main Street in Penn Yan, on Sunday, September 28, from 2 to 5 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 5 p.m.  You can read the full obituary here.

The house fire at 149 Cornwell Street left both Ethan and his grandmother critically injured. Firefighters found Ethan in a first-floor bedroom and Stenz on a nearby bed. Both were transported to Soldiers & Sailors Hospital and then flown to Upstate Medical in Syracuse, where they later died. A dog inside the home did not survive.

Investigators say the fire originated in the mechanical area at the bottom of the refrigerator, near the wiring and compressor.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Ethan’s mother.  You can view that by clicking here
