Residents of one Schuyler County village have responded to a warning put out by its mayor a few months back that if no one stepped up to fill upcoming vacancies on the village board, its government might be forced to dissolve. Since then, four residents have filed petitions to run for Mayor of Odessa.
The Odessa File reports the candidates are Dustin Carnes, Ronald Greschler, Daniel Heichel, and Katherine Wilkins. Cindy Emerson is the only candidate running for one of the two trustee seats. The other seat will likely be filled by appointment.
Back in December, Mayor Gerry Messmer warned that if the village did not have at least three board members after the March elections, the state would come in and take over the board and appoint board members, or do a forced dissolution.
The elections will take place on March 18th.
