A former Schuyler and Chemung County attorney has resolved her legal case after repaying nearly $19,000 in funds she was accused of improperly receiving.
According to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, Jessica Saks, who faced felony theft and fraud charges in July 2025, pleaded guilty to petit larceny in December. Under the terms of her conditional discharge, the charges will be removed from her record if she avoids further legal trouble during the specified period.
The case stemmed from an investigation by the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit in Rochester, which found that Saks allegedly submitted false receipts and financial records while serving as Chief Attorney of the Schuyler and Chemung County Children’s Law Office. Authorities said the actions resulted in $19,957 in state funds being misused.
Saks originally faced felony charges for offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree and grand larceny in the third degree, but the resolution through restitution and a guilty plea to petit larceny allowed her to avoid a felony conviction.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
