The Finger Lakes environmental group, Seneca Lake Guardian, is accusing U.S. Senator Kristen Gillibrand, of supporting the cryptocurrency industry and questioned her commitment to the region because she has yet to reintroduce a bill that would designate the Finger Lakes as a national heritage area.
Yesterday the group held a video news conference blasting the senator for not visiting the area. Seneca Lake Guardian also says Gillibrand has taken donations from cryptocurrency supporters.
A Gillibrand spokesperson says Gillibrand has donated the funding her campaign accepted, and the process is moving forward designate the region as a national heritage area. They add Gillibrand plans to visit all 62-counties this year.
Seneca Lake Guardian has been working to shut down the Greenidge Generation’s cryptomining operation at a power plant in Dresden.
