The Dundee Library participated in the annual FLX Gives event on November 13 and 14, part of a 24-hour fundraising blitz hosted by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes. Nonprofits across the region took part in the event, raising funds for a variety of local causes.
This year, the Dundee Library launched its “Step Up for the Stairs” campaign, aiming to raise $1,500 to install new carpeting in the library’s main staircase. The community response exceeded expectations, with the library raising a total of $2,098.
Library Director Dusty Baker led the campaign. “I knew a key factor to our success would be reaching out to our area businesses for support,” Baker said. Local businesses answered the call, with Wixson Honey contributing $500 as matching funds for the library’s “So Sweet Challenge.” The library’s Board of Trustees also added a $350 match, tripling donations as the 24-hour giving period began. Several early donations helped build momentum for the campaign.

In addition to their FLX Gives success, the Dundee Library recently received a $1,500 grant from the Community Foundation’s Keuka Area Fund. The grant supports organizations with programs aimed at strengthening communities in areas including human services, arts and culture, education and youth, health, animal welfare, the environment, and civic affairs.
Baker says the funding will help expand the library’s programming. “We’re excited to get more people into the library,” he said. “There are plenty of books going out the door, but we’d love to see more people spending a little more time within our walls.”
