A warning for parents and students following a frightening incident involving a local teenager and a fentanyl-laced vape.
The Dryden Central School District says a student collapsed after taking a single inhale from what they believed was a marijuana vape. The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 13th.
In a statement, the district said multiple doses of NARCAN were needed to revive the student, who was then taken to a nearby hospital and is now recovering.
Lab tests confirmed the vape was laced with fentanyl—a powerful and potentially deadly opioid. The device was reportedly bought from an unlicensed convenience store not authorized to sell marijuana products.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, and at this time, it’s still unclear exactly where the vape was purchased.
Dryden school officials are urging families to talk to students about the serious dangers of vaping unknown substances.
