Driver Rescued From Truck Dangling Over Steuben County Bridge

SHARE NOW

A dramatic rescue occurred early Monday morning in Steuben County.

The Bath Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request from Avoca shortly after 4 o’clock for the tractor-trailer accident on the Interstate 86 flyover to Interstate 390.  The driver of the truck was trapped in the cab, which was hanging off the overpass above the northbound lanes of Interstate 390.

A two-pronged rescue was initiated by members of the Bath’s Rope Rescue team from above and the crew of Truck 5 from below. Extrication was completed when the driver self-extricated onto the aerial platform of Truck 5.  The unidentified man turned over to EMTs with the Bath VA ambulance.

The truck was carrying bags of mulch.
