A proposed water main replacement project in Dresden is set to proceed after a review concluded it would not have significant environmental impacts.
The project aims to replace the village’s aging transmission mains and distribution pipes, which have been prone to frequent breaks. These breaks disrupt the potable water supply, create unsafe drinking conditions, and place financial and operational stress on the Public Works Department.
The project will involve replacing the outdated asbestos cement pipes with more durable materials, such as ductile iron or high-density polyethylene pipes, each with a minimum diameter of 8 inches to improve water flow capacity. In addition, fire hydrants and valves will be upgraded.
To further enhance water distribution, the project will eliminate dead-end pipes and create looped systems that ensure a consistent flow of water throughout the village.
