Charging Lithium Battery Pack Blamed for Bath Apartment Fire

SHARE NOW

Investigators believe a charging Lithium battery pack that overheated caused an apartment fire in Steuben County over the weekend.

At 9:41 Saturday morning, Bath firefighters were dispatched to 101 West Washington Street for a possible structure fire with reports of black smoke coming from a window. The first units that arrived on the scene reported a working structure fire in a multi-family two-story apartment building. Bath Police checked the apartment where the smoke was coming from and found no one inside but the bedroom was on fire.

Quick response by the Bath Fire Department and Bath VA firefighters and a rapid interior attack knocked down the blaze quickly. Neighboring apartments in the home were not damaged.

The fire was called under control by Bath Chief Mike Fiordo at 10:03 and all units cleared the scene and were back in service at 11:16

The American Red Cross is assisting the lone occupant of the apartment.
