Changes Made to Penn Yan’s Starshine, Lights on Wheels Parade

SHARE NOW

One month before the event is set to take place, the Starshine Committee has announced some changes to the annual event that takes place on the first Saturday in December in Penn Yan.

The Committee said that after careful consideration and discussions with our event volunteers, staff, and planning committee, a decision has been made to host the Lights on Wheels parade and StarShine on the same evening, Saturday, December 7th.

All activities associated with StarShine will no longer take place on Main Street in Penn Yan and will instead relocate to the Yates County Courtyard. The Lights on Wheels Parade has taken place the Friday night before StarShine since it was introduced three years ago.  This year’s parade will begin on East Main Street from the Yates County Fairgrounds and end on North Main Street in front of the Yates Community Center, extending the parade route from previous years.

This StarShine Committee said the decision was made to allow the Lights on Wheels Parade and StarShine to take place on the same evening, minimizing the burden on our volunteers and maximizing the community’s enjoyment of both events.

While the location has changed, the Committee wants to assure you that many of the beloved StarShine activities will continue, including visits with Santa, Elf School, tractor and wagon rides, children’s activities, and more.

The Committee added it understands the significance of StarShine for our downtown businesses and is committed to ensuring it continues to support visitation and commerce to Main Street. We are working on a plan to encourage event attendees to still explore and visit our Main Street shops, restaurants, and businesses throughout the evening.

The Committee will provide further updates soon on our promotional efforts, special offers, and any additional initiatives we can coordinate to help draw StarShine visitors to downtown businesses.
