Celebrating Excellence: The 2024 Schuyler Tributes Awards Winners

The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce proudly hosted the Schuyler Tributes Awards on Thursday at Veraisons at the Inn at Glenora Wine Cellars. These awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of the Watkins Glen Area Chamber’s member businesses and entrepreneurs, highlighting those who have made significant contributions to Schuyler County’s economy and community.

According to the Chamber, the Schuyler Tributes Awards are “a true reflection of the community’s voice.” This year, businesses and individuals were nominated and voted on by members of the community, recognizing their hard work, innovation, and commitment to making Schuyler County a vibrant place to live, work, and thrive.

Schuyler Legacy Award
This award honors a vocal champion for positive change in our region, someone who appreciates our unique scenic beauty and natural resources, and advocates for inclusion, diversity, and equity in Schuyler County.

Winner:
Kate LaMoreaux | Kate has been a lifelong advocate for the community in Schuyler County. Her most notable contribution was organizing the American Red Cross Swimming Lessons at Watkins Glen High School and Clute Park for many years. By dedicating much of her summer vacation to this program, she ensured that generations of Schuyler County residents were safer in and around the water. Kate’s name is synonymous with swimming safety in our beautiful Seneca Lake area.
Phoenix Award
This award recognizes an individual or organization that exhibits perseverance, adapts to trends and challenges, demonstrates the strength to pivot creatively when problems arise, and positively impacts our community.

Winner:
Mike Stamp | Mike Stamp is a pillar of community service in Schuyler County, serving residents, businesses, and local government while also participating in wildlife conservation efforts. His dedication to the community, always accompanied by a smile and sharp wit, makes him a deserving recipient of the Phoenix Award.

Emerging Business Award
This award is given to a business that has been in operation for less than three years, has made an immediate positive impact on our community, and demonstrates ingenuity and entrepreneurial drive.

Winner:
Blackberry Inn Kitchen | Blackberry Inn Kitchen has quickly become a staple in the Village of Watkins Glen. Filling a much-needed void in the community, they offer amazing food and flexible hours to ensure breakfast options are available seven days a week. Their traditional bagels bring a touch of NYC flair to downtown Watkins Glen.

Endurance Award
This award recognizes a business that has been in operation for more than ten years, actively participates in initiatives that positively impact the community, fosters a culture of excellence and inclusivity, and makes long-term philanthropic contributions to the regional economy.

Winner:
Schuyler County Historical Society | The Society works tirelessly to increase community awareness, expand programming, and rekindle a desire for learning through walking history tours, workshops, and presentations. Their active social media presence appeals to younger generations, and their participation in community events makes them a shining example of endurance.
