Cornell Cooperative Extension of Yates County is working to bring the Northwest New York Dairy, Livestock, and Field Crops team back to the county, and county residents can give their feedback at a forum on Wednesday (see below). Extension’s Interim Director Jennifer Clancey tells us Cornell has several area teams that consist of multiple specialists with higher levels of specialties in certain areas that can provide support to counties like the Finger Lakes grape program and the Cornell vegetable program.
“The Northwest New York team has specialists in areas of small farms and livestock, farm business management, field crops and soils, and dairy, and their team leader specializes in IPMs or Integrated Pest Management systems,” said Clancey. “Yates County was part of this team several years ago and we are holding this forum on Wednesday so everyone can learn more about the team and the resources they provide, but also allow area farmers and stakeholders to voice their concerns on what they feel the needs are specifically in Yates County.”
Wednesday’s community forum will be held at 2 p.m. at the Yates County Auditorium in Penn Yan. If you plan on attending, you are asked to call Cooperative Extension’s office at 536-5123 so they can plan accordingly.
