Two area county clerks and their offices were recognized by Donate Life NYS for their efforts to increase the number of organ donors in the state.

Steuben County Clerk Judith Hunter and her team received the SuperStar Award for having the highest percentage of registered organ donors enrolled in April which is Donate Life Month.

The Galactic Giving Award went to Cayuga County Clerk Brian Scanlan and his staff for increasing organ, eye, and tissue donations in April and year-round.

Niagara County Clerk Joesph Jastrzemski and his staff earned the Rising Star Award for recording the greatest one-year increase in donor registration rates while Saratoga County Clerk Craig Hayner and his DMV staff took home the Stellar Space Award Office Decorating Contes trophy

The awards were presented at the New York State Association of County Clerk’s Annual Conference.

Aisha Tator is the Executive Director of Donate Life NYS. She told Finger Lakes News Radio that county clerks are invaluable in promoting donation registration.

“The county clerks have embraced Donate Life NYS’ mission as their own and they’re so dedicated and committed to helping us in this effort to make sure no New Yorker dies needlessly waiting for a transplant that could save their lives,” said Tator.

She added that one person can save eight lives through organ donation and help another 75 through eye and tissue donations.

84% of donor registrations come from DMVs, according to Tator. Donate Life NYS seeks to increase organ donors, ensuring those in need can get necessary transplants. Registering as an organ donor can be done at your local DMV or online at donatelifenys.org.
