A young bicyclist was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital over the weekend after being struck by a car in Yates County.
According to the sheriff’s office, Todd Whitford, of Bluff Point, was driving north on Italy Hill Road near the Italy Turnpike Road at around 6:30 Saturday night when an unidentified juvenile rode their bike out into the path of his car from a driveway. Whitford struck the bicycle, which came to rest on the shoulder of the road. The juvenile was airlifted to Rochester by Lifenet for injuries to their back and spine.
In addition to LIfeNet, the Yates County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Yates County Ambulance and the Prattsburgh Fire Department and Ambulance.
