The Bath man who was involved in a standoff with police for hours in August of 2023 has been found guilty of a dozen counts of attempted murder.
Larry Schoonover was indicted on 44 charges, 43 of them felonies after he fired multiple shots from a 16-gauge shotgun at officers from the State Police, the Bath Village Police Department, and Steuben County Sheriff’s Office. An almost six-hour-long standoff with police started following a domestic incident, in which neighbors on Roosevelt Avenue were evacuated. It came to an end shortly after 1 the following morning when Schoonover shot at police and they fired back, striking him in the leg.
In addition to attempted murder, Schoonover was convicted on 12 counts of Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and 5 counts of Reckless Endangerment, Assault, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Schoonover will be sentenced in January.
