A local artist has purchased the building that houses a grocery store in the Village of Dundee, with plans to add new creative space for the community.
Local metal artist Sam Castner is the new owner of the building on Union Street, where Dundee Fresh Grocery is located.
Despite the change in ownership, the grocery store will continue operating at its current location. Castner plans to use part of the building for a new metal and woodworking shop, relocating his workspace from a barn on his property in Barrington. Another section of the building is expected to be developed into a community makerspace. The collaborative workspace would provide tools and resources for people to create, invent, and learn together, with a focus on encouraging hands-on creativity among local youth and community members.
