All are invited to the fourth annual Celebrate Cascade on Saturday from noon to 4:00 PM at Cascade Falls in the heart of the Keuka Outlet Trail. If past years are any indication, more than 200 people of all ages and exercise interests will gather to celebrate the bucolic gorge and waterfalls that were once populated by industries that relied on hydropower. The event is free, will occur rain or shine, and is located approximately one-half mile east of the intersection of Ridge and Outlet Road.
Blue Eyed Soul, a band from the Southern Tier that plays a wide variety of soulful sounds and Rock and Roll covers, will perform on Saturday. In addition to lawn games, such as corn hole and bocce, numerous not-for-profit organizations have been invited to share their information about the essential work each organization does to enhance our community.
“As we continue to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Friends of the Outlet, we are very excited about the fourth annual Celebrate Cascade. This event brings our whole community together in a place that is unique and very special to our region of the Finger Lakes– historically, geologically and environmentally,” Keith Prather, president of the FOTO Board of Directors said. “Come see the new gazebo and enjoy a perfect end of summer and the start of autumn.”
The Keuka Outlet Trail follows the Minessetah River and is open year-round, from dusk to dawn. Depending on the time of year and weather, this glacially formed waterway can be a raging river or a babbling brook as it flows eastward approximately eight miles from Keuka Lake into Seneca Lake. A gradual 270-foot drop in altitude from Penn Yan on the west to Dresden on the east provides ample white water including two substantial waterfalls, notably Seneca and Cascade Falls. In 1984, a group of local citizens formed Friends of the Outlet, Inc. as a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, protect, ing and developing properties along Keuka Outlet Creek as an area for outdoor recreation and education, and to serve as responsible stewards for the region’s natural resources.
