A vehicle reported stolen from a Jamestown auto dealership has been recovered at the Peace Bridge border crossing, and a U.S. citizen has been taken into custody.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says officers encountered 38-year-old Joshua Eddy on May 29 after he was returned to the United States by the Canada Border Services Agency while attempting to enter Canada in a 2026 Ford Bronco.

According to CBP, Canadian officials denied Eddy entry because he was unable to provide approved travel documents or registration for the vehicle.

When Eddy and the vehicle were returned to the United States, CBP officers conducted a secondary inspection. During the examination, officers verified Eddy’s identity and discovered through the National Crime Information Center database that the Ford Bronco had been reported stolen from an automobile dealership in Jamestown.

“Thanks to the outstanding work of our CBP officers and collaboration with our international and local law enforcement partners, we successfully recovered a stolen vehicle,” said Sharon Swiatek, Acting Port Director for the Area Port of Buffalo. “Our coordinated efforts demonstrate our commitment to protecting our businesses and communities, securing our borders, and preventing criminal activity.”

Eddy was taken into custody by CBP officers and processed at the border crossing. He and the recovered vehicle were later turned over to the Buffalo Police Department, which is continuing the investigation.
