Portions of the Geneva lakefront have been temporarily closed following recent weather events that caused damage and created hazardous conditions.
City officials say the boat launch has been closed, access to the concrete steps has been restricted, and sections of the lakefront path have been barricaded after sinkholes were identified in the area. The closures are intended to protect public safety while crews assess the extent of the damage.
Officials also reported a significant amount of debris has washed ashore due to elevated water levels. Cleanup efforts are already underway.
At this time, there is no estimated timeline for reopening the affected areas. City staff say a more thorough evaluation will take place once weather conditions improve.
Residents are asked to use caution and avoid closed areas. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
