A recent decision by the Walworth Town Board will end 24/7 coverage by Western Wayne Ambulance in Walworth and Marion.
As of 6 o’clock tonight, the new primary ambulance service in Walworth will be the tax-funded Wayne County EMS. Western Wayne Ambulance says the board’s decision has made its operations financially unsustainable.
The organization, which responded to over 1,500 emergency calls annually without taxpayer funding, says it was not given prior notice or the opportunity for discussion before the change.
From its website, Western Wayne Ambulance, a result of the merger of Walworth Ambulance and Marion Ambulance, is a blended, Volunteer and Career Not-For-Profit EMS agency located in the Town of Walworth. Western Wayne operates a Paramedic-level service with an even blend of experienced, career EMTs and Paramedics and dedicated, local Volunteer Drivers and EMTs. In 2024, the organization responded to over 1,400 calls for emergency service in the Towns of Walworth, Marion, Macedon, Ontario, Webster, Palmyra, Williamson, Sodus, and Newark.
