Wayne County Woman Charged After Missing Kids Found in Dangerous Situation

SHARE NOW

A North Rose woman is facing charges after an investigation into a report of missing children in Sodus Point.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says 52-year-old Melody Zerniak was arrested around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, following an incident on Wickham Boulevard. Deputies responded to a report of missing children and later located them in what they described as a potentially dangerous situation.

Deputies say Zerniak, who was responsible for the children at the time, had not been properly supervising them. During questioning, she allegedly became uncooperative with law enforcement.

Zerniak was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of obstructing governmental administration. She was taken to the Wayne County Jail to await arraignment at CAP Court and is scheduled to appear in Sodus Town Court at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
