SHARE NOW

After nearly four years since the fatal crash that resulted in the deaths of a woman from Waterloo and a man from Rose, a Wayne County man has been convicted of causing their deaths and will receive his sentencing on May 25th.

Christopher Kirkey was found guilty on Friday for the incident that occurred on May 26, 2019, as he was driving east on Savannah Spring Lake Road in Rose. His vehicle veered off the road, struck a guard rail and bridge abutment, and landed in Crusoe Creek, resulting in the deaths of his passengers, Kayla Mettler and Michael Schute.

Sadly, Mettler was also pregnant at the time of the crash, and her unborn son did not survive.

Kirkey faces a potential sentence of up to 25 years in prison for aggravated vehicular homicide.
