The positions of the Republican and Democratic election commissioners in one Finger Lakes county are expected to go from part-time to full-time.
The county’s Board of Supervisors will vote on a resolution this morning at 9 that would make the two positions both 37.5 hours per week, at an annual salary of $66,000 each. The resolution states the Wayne County Republican Committee would appoint Mindy Robinson as their Election Commissioner and Gerry Clingerman would be appointed as the Democratic Election Commissioner.
The proposed resolution explains the need to move from part-time to full-time Commissioners as being “the scope and complexity of the position of Election Commissioner has changed significantly due to, among other things, the enactment of over 120 election law changes since 2019, including nine days of early voting, a voter registration deadline fifteen days closer to the day of the election, increased use of technology, statewide voter transfer, more notice requirements to voters, a cure process for absentee voters, tighter deadlines for absentee ballot envelope review, increase voting by mail, and a hearing procedure for ballot access determinations, among many others”
