A Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured in a two-vehicle crash just outside the Sheriff’s Office on State Route 31.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred when 23-year-old Hunter Boyer of Lyons pulled out of the jail parking lot and began driving westbound on the shoulder of the eastbound lane. At the time, eastbound traffic was stopped due to nearby construction.
Deputy Dennie, a corrections officer and sheriff’s deputy, was traveling westbound in a patrol vehicle through the work zone and attempting to turn left into the Sheriff’s Office driveway when Boyer struck the patrol car on the driver’s side.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and evaluated all involved. Deputy Dennie was transported by ambulance to Newark-Wayne Hospital for further evaluation of a possible head injury.
Boyer was issued a ticket for reckless driving, along with six additional traffic violations. The investigation is ongoing.
The Lyons Fire Department and Wayne County EMS assisted at the scene.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
