A 19-year-old from Waterloo was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital after being involved in a two-car collision in Phelps Sunday night.

A preliminary investigation revealed 18-year-old Destiny Robinson, of Clifton Springs, had been driving north on County Road 6 and stopped at the intersection with State Route 96. She then attempted to make a left turn and failed to yield the right of way to an eastbound vehicle driven by 19-year-old Marissa Ohearn. Ohearn was flown to Rochester by Mercy Flight for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger in her car, 18-year-old Mackenzie Shafer, of Lyons, was taken to Strong by Phelps Ambulance for evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Robinson was taken to Clifton Springs Hospital by Finger Lakes EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

Robinson was issued a ticket for failure to yield the right of way on a left turn. Ohearn was also ticketed for failure to wear a seat belt.

The accident remains under investigation by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Oaks Corners Fire Department, Phelps EMS, and Finger Lakes EMS.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
