The Waterloo Board of Education Thursday night approved a 3% raise for both the Assistant School Superintendent Jennifer Hayden and School Superintendent Terri Bavis.
The board did not act on the motion to approve a a contract extension for superintendent. That motion was pulled from the agenda at the start of the meeting. We asked board president Ellen Hughes why they didn’t vote on the contract extension, but she was stopped from answering the question.
Over 80 people attended the board meeting, many wearing t-shirts or holding signs in support of Bavis. Three people, two retired and one current school district employee, spoke during the public comment period. All three supported the superintendent.

The salary increases are effective beginning next month.
Bavis has come under fire recently on social media, and voters twice rejected next year’s school budget forcing the district to adopt a contingency budget.
